Smash'ed Em' Bro
I was using my 600 point tournament list of Vikings up against Phil s Spartans. Not only was I rolling good dice, but almost every re-roll I got hit. Then if I did need to make a death check or cohesion roll, I was passing them so often even the God's wouldn't have wanted to bet against me. I lost three bases the whole game and had one battle group break. So it was a complete and utter Spartan blood bath. And it wasn't due to my deployment or any super sneaking rules or anything, just simple God or maybe demon blessed dice. Sorry Phil, that just how it rolled.
And yep, I used a complete set of different dice than I normally do.... think I may save them for the tournament next month.
My second and third games of FOG today were against Will with his Roman's. Now before today, Will's Romans were bating the heads of my Vikings, winning 100% of the games. So in the first turn of our first game it was heading that same way and it continued for that game. I did manage to break a few of his battle groups but got beaten soundly.
The second game however was quite different. I actually thought about some tactics and they worked to a degree.(shock horror ... me...having tactics... and trying to maneuver Viking) Anyway, this time my dice demons were back on my side, and I had some advantages with overlaps and numbers. All adding up to a complete reversal of the first game against the Romans. If fact I was another Smashed Em' Bro moment.
All in all a good day for the Vikings, winning two out of three games. So I now pretty happy with my list for the tournament.

The victorious Vikings
As usual it was another great day down at the South Auckland club yesterday. There was Warhammer 40K, Field of Glory Renaissance, along with a game of Pike & Shot and of course Field of Glory. So just a normal game day at the club.
My first game was up against Chris with his Hungarian army. Poor Chris couldn’t roll a six to save himself, and I had him running all over his own troops. Chris did manage to break one of my battle groups, but the rest of my Vikings just rolled overtop of the Hungarians.
A few strange Egyptian models were hanging about in the fight, as Chris used some of my stands from my New Kingdom Egyptian army as proxy’s until the rest of his order turns up.
The second game I played Jason and his Swedish army. It stared with the Vikings getting shoot up, an me rolling like a demon making every moral check, then Jason had some epic failures of the dice as our main army battle lines clashed in the middle of the table. So it was looking like another walk over by the end of turn two for me. That changed slowly as the Swedish Nights ran down one of my flanking battle groups and the other flank was harassed by Cavalry and a group of light foot hand gunners. The game ended when my Huscarls broken through the Swedish line and went on to sack there camp. The end score was 8 points to 7, so a real close battle.
Here’s a few photos of some of the other games that were going on. Blood Angels versus The Sisters of Battle.
Field of Glory Renaissance.
Brian and Arthur rolled out there first game of Pike & Shot in 28mm, with some very nice looking models.
So the victorious Vikings rolled out two wins, so that’s three in a row, I best go buy a lotto ticket with this sort of luck.

Viking misery
Well my new Viking list suffered two defeats yesterday in a row. Both games were played against Chris with some proxies armies at 800 pts (He was using my unfinished Egyptian army, hence the strange pictures). Back to the drawing board I think with the list. Or maybe I just need to figure out a few more tactics.
The first game I lost when I went into terrain with lots of heavy foot and got shot to S#@$% (I should know better) The second game I also got shot to S#@$ again by lots of light troops and I just couldn’t catch them with all my heavy troops. I did learn a bit today with playing my formation a bit different from my usual. We came across a few different confrontations that bent the mind trying to work them out and struck the frustration of the FOG rule book.(Which has a really bad index) I still need to brush up on the finer parts of the FOG rules as I’m rather rusty. Still, even with losing it was a fun day as usual.

Vikings vs Carthaginians
After not playing FOG for several months and getting the bug again after our FOG Napoleonic's game last week, The Hung Over One (Mark…LOL… serious hangover he was) and I thought we would bust out the troops in an 800 point game on Sunday. It turned out to be an epic all day battle, with some mind bending re-learning of the rules as we went. We started mid morning after messing about with lists and making sure we had the step-up the table all correct, as per the rules. Straight off the bat Mark had most of the terrain in my half, which is no good for my Heavy foot troops, which is almost all my army.
It started out pretty much even, with the Cathy’s moving up and holding position on the far side of the open fields, mean while this gave my Vikings time to move about. Somehow I managed to rearrange my line and move past most of the open fields causing me grief in the deployment.
Then it was a bit of cat and mouse as our light troops picked away at each side trying to cause someone to break or inflict enough to do some damage. We blundered a few rules as we went, but corrected ourselves as and where we realised.
Then we did the whole over think the rules bit, and got ourselves lost in rules as an entire battle lines clashed, with all sorts of overlaps all the way along the main battle line. After lunch and lots of rule reading we figured it out.
In the end I managed to break enough of the Carthy’s to take the win, just as several of my mighty Huscals were on the edge of auto break due to loss of numbers. (Which was a first for me, as there cohesion was untouched, I just kept failing on the the death rolls and losing stands, but making the cohesion tests every time)
Hail to the Dice God’s… I think they were laughing too hard at Mark and his hangover to lend him a hand …LOL.
It was an epic battle, taking all day with us re-learning the rules. But who cares how long it took or who won, it was fun, rolling dice and pushing toys around the with mates. Now that's what it’s truly all about. Roll on Christmas with more toys and lots more games.
