Will’s P51 Mustang Video

A couple of videos I shot on Sunday. Still got a lot to learn about shooting video, but not half bad for my first real try.

Will’s Mustang Flight

P51D Mustang

No gaming this weekend, but another awesome day out at Ardmore airport to watch Will go for another flight. This time it was a P51D Mustang.

Not only did I get to see the P51 Mustang, but three Harvard's and the Spitfire also were out and about. I didn’t take to many photos as I was testing out shooting Video with my DSLR for a change. Challenging to say the least, for me, as I don’t shoot video very often. But I think I did ok, a bit of editing and I should end up with something usable. Good practice for next weekends Omaka air show that I’m heading down to.

Dust SSU KV-3

After a mind burning week at work, I'm finally on holiday for two weeks. So to start it off the best possible way I could, I bought a new bottle of scotch and busted out my air brush. My skills on the air brush still need more work, haven't got the thin line technique down yet, but ti still turned out ok.

Club Day

Another cracking warm blue sky day bought about the South Auckland club day yesterday. With several new people turning up we had 5 tables going along with several people watching and learning new games. Bolt Action, Merc’s, X-wing and Field of Glory Ancients being played.

I’ve started painting my Egyptians again over the week, to actually try and get them finished before I move onto my Samurai army. So Mark and I played a 600 point game, with his Carthaginian up against my New Kingdom Egyptians. I’m starting to get the hang of the Light Chariots, and with a heavily Bow based list I really managed to dent Mark’s Carthaginians. My Nubian light foot superior bow troops are really working well for me, also helps when you roll like a demon.

After lots and lots of shooting from me, Mark finally caught me and managed to break my army wining 9 points to 8. So a close game.

The second game I played Christian with his beautifully painted army of Carthaginian. It’s Christians 6th game, so he made a few mistakes on deployment, but he’s definitely getting better sine I played him at battlecry.

With a lots of terrain on my side I was always going to have a hard time with the Light Chariots running out of space to evade into.

My shooting wasn’t as near as good as the first game, but my basic plan of holding my Medium foot troops well back and have the chariots shoot up the enemy seems to be working well for me now. I just need to make sure I leave more room for the Light Chariots evade moves in future.

I managed to outflank Christian on both flanks but got pushed right back to almost my own table edge. We rushed through the last couple of turns as we were running out of gaming time. So it wasn’t an ideal end to the game. And I think we made a few small mistakes because we were rushing, but I don’t think it would have changed the outcome too much. Christian had me pined and it was all or nothing, with numbers on my side I came out on top winning the game convincingly on points 10 10/0. It was a lot closer than the points show, as Christian only needed a couple of the dice rolls to go his way and it would have been a different story. The amazing thing about this game was the rallying, both sides doing a huge amount of rallying, which made for a longer than usual game.

So a win and a loss for my Egyptians in two fun games. Thinking of tweaking the list a little and trying some other troop choices in my next few games.

Resistance is futile

Yes, I know I’m weak when it comes to new toys. After the game of Wings of Glory on the weekend I’ve found some very cool scenarios and add-on's. So I found a few more planes online at good prices and just couldn’t resist once I found the Yamato Battleship template. I had 6 bombers in my Axis lot of planes and only 3 fighters, so I’ve gone and got a few Zeros to balance things out and to defend the Yamato from the Allied.

I’ve already got my eye on a couple of bombers for the Allied since I don’t actually have any for them yet.

I’m already hanging out for the weekend for some more gaming and it’s only Monday.

Roll and Relax

Yep, after a manic week at work and to many hours steering into monitors, it was great to relax and roll dice and play some games on Saturday. With a couple of new people coming along to join our group. Christian who I played at Battlecry and Matthew, who found us through our blogs. Both who are FOG players, so this years gaming is really shaping up to be the year of FOG.

I played my first 400 point FOG game, using Mark’s constricted rules (http://kiwi-colour-studio.blogspot.co.nz/) for small games. I used my Egyptians for the first time in god knows how long. While Matthew borrowed Marks Romans. Talk about rusty, having played with my Vikings for so long I had to keep looking at Chariot rules. My dice were on fire and my shooting rolls were well above average, on top of which Matthew’s cohesion rolls went from bad to worse. So I scrounged out a win after Matthew conceded. So a fun game and great to have another player in the group.

We then busted out my Wings of Glory WWII planes for the first time, and had five of us taking a couple of planes each. A great little game, easy rules to learn and the pre-painted planes are awesome. I’m definitely going to have to get some scenario games in with bombing runs, and battle ships etc.

Then later on in the afternoon I took my Egyptians up against Will with the Romans again. A different story this time round as I got crushed. The good thing from this game was it got me really looking at the rules later that evening, and I found a few things that I had forgotten about and a couple of things I got completely wrong in both games. Not that the things I got wrong would have changed the outcome of the game by much.

My Light Chariots shooting backwards only get a negative POA, which I was halving the dice rather than adding the negative POA. Something I’ll definitely remember for the future.

I also found a nice little complex move in the rule book that the light chariots can do, which is basically shuffle back two inches. So that will be very handy when they are up against heavy foot troops as long as I pass the complex maneuver roll, It should get me three rounds of shooting before having to flee from charges. Now onto some painting, having white primed models on the table looked bad.
