Club Day

South Auckland Club day was a quite affair this month, with a few of the regulars away and some having to leave early. The usual FOG games going, along with some Lord of the Rings and Bolt Action.

Phil and I played a couple of games of Infinity, using all his building. But only at one level as if we were in an underground complex, which made for quite a different gaming experience. We used the YAMS rules for both games. I tried out my Preta spam list and adjusted it for the second game after a few things became apparent in the first game. Suppression fire made a good impact and both sides making good use of it.  I really must get my models painted, now that I’ve got a good core base for my lists.

I lost the first game 3VP to 4VP, which was pretty good for me. I’m still struggling with working out how to best score points of some of the missions. (more practice required I think). The second game I lost 2VP to 5VP, again with some of the mission messing me up. But the game was a really hard fort one, with my Preta’s really working well. I’ve finally got the hang of them I think. Also helps when you have six of them.

And to round of the day I pulled out Wings of Glory for a quick game. My Zero’s losing against the Allied… never helps when you crash into your own planes and cause damage of 50% in the first turn on one plane. It’s a great fun, not to serious game.

So three losses today, but all good fun.

Back to Gaming

It was nice to take a break from gaming over the long Easter weekend. So it was back into gaming today. First up was an Infinity game with Phil. Yet another army list based on some of my new models that have just arrived. It ended up a draw, thanks to my inability to kill a civilian after five goes at him.

Phil’s new custom creates and containers look awesome. He had designed them and had them laser cut out of MDF.

After that we rocked out a game of Wings of War WWI, using the huge Gotha Bomber. (What a cool model). My bombing run with the flying whale missed, but it has inspired me to get some bombers for my WWII kit.

Then onto our first X-wing game with the Falcon and an A-Wing up against 5 Tie fighters. The rebels wining in the end after Phil pulled two direct hit cards and lost fighters quickly.

Then to round off the afternoon we played a Wings of War WWII game. My first Zero got absolute blown out of the sky in one round. Those number 8 damage tokens just hurt with the come out. My second one followed pretty quickly after than as well. It’s a quick fun game.

A fun relaxing day to end my two week holiday, back to the grind tomorrow.

Classic Fighters Omaka 2013

Four days of pure awesome…. with an OMG what an Airshow. We got stunning hot  weather or 24-27 degrees (putting aside a 2 hour downpour) for a spectacular display of flying some incredible machines.  Between the three of us we shot over 12,500 photos and videos. From the magical WWI Fokkers to the P51 Mustang and Spitfires all the way through to the Venom. What a show.

Omaka 2013 Spitfire

This is the first great picture I’ve pulled out of the Spitfire …(got days of work to go over them all) and I’m not complaining one bit. In fact I’m still smiling and will be for some time. I must say seeing the seven WWI Fokkers flying was incredible as was the Focke Wulf FW 190… more pics to come in the next few days as I get though them..…lot’s of Wings of War to be played in the coming weeks ;- )

Resistance is futile

Yes, I know I’m weak when it comes to new toys. After the game of Wings of Glory on the weekend I’ve found some very cool scenarios and add-on's. So I found a few more planes online at good prices and just couldn’t resist once I found the Yamato Battleship template. I had 6 bombers in my Axis lot of planes and only 3 fighters, so I’ve gone and got a few Zeros to balance things out and to defend the Yamato from the Allied.

I’ve already got my eye on a couple of bombers for the Allied since I don’t actually have any for them yet.

I’m already hanging out for the weekend for some more gaming and it’s only Monday.
